Nepal is a one of the richest country in terms of cultural diversity, multi religious, multi lingual and a multi cultural country in south Asia, located on the lap of the Himalayas sandwiched in between giant China and India. Such diversity translates into diverse rituals in wedding customs among different cultural groups in Nepal.
Women situation in Nepal lead a difficult life, specially in rural communities where a paternal society and ignorance of the law hinders progress towards gender equality. Although the situation for girls and women in urban areas has been improving rapidly, Nepali women in general are still expected to act subserviently, are given inferior education compared to their male counterparts, and are forced to work for less pay or without pay at all. They are often abused emotionally and physically, which further contributes to their negative self-image and low personal expectations.
